Our story so far.
Hello, and welcome to the Eric Ravilious Art website. A few years ago we started a small company selling greetings cards, postcards and prints that we regarded as rather good art. Unsurprisingly, this company is called Rather Good Art, and features a great many works by Eric Ravilious. However, as time passed, poor Mr. Ravilious became rather lost in amongst the multitude of artists we now feature (over 500 greetings cards and counting) so we decided to give him his very own website which would display his work without encumbrance.
Additionally it is intended to function as a news repository for events involving Ravilious, and a platform for essays and articles about the man, his paintings, and the locations they depict.
Rather Good Art is a small family business situated in Wells, which is nestled in the foothills of the Mendip Hills in Somerset. We’ve been running since 2021, when we started with one collection of three cards (The Eric Ravilious Collection No. 1, appropriately enough). These were so well received that we quickly offered a second collection, and have been producing a collection of cards and postcards every week since.
In 2022 we branched out into calendars, with the works of Eric Ravilious again being our first offering. By 2024 we had a total of nine calendars by different artists to choose from, and in 2025 we started our first foray into the world of jigsaw puzzles, again with Eric Ravilious again leading the way in the form of a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle featuring one of his most enduring images, Train Landscape.
We pride ourselves on the fact that all of our greetings cards, postcards, art prints and jigsaw puzzles are manufactured locally – from no further, in fact, than the next county or two along. This approach not only supports local businesses, but also goes a long way to cutting down on unnecessary carbon emissions.
Deliveries and Returns
Orders received before 2PM on a working day are usually dispatched on the same day, while orders received after this time will be despatched on the following day. If you are not satisfied with any of our greetings cards, postcards or prints, please contact us at info@ericraviliousart.co.uk and we will arrange for a replacement or a refund, whichever is your preference.
Green Credentials
Here at Rather Good Art we take our commitment to the environment seriously. All of our printed matter comes from FSC approved sources, and our envelopes and cardboard outers are 100% recyclable. For retail orders we occasionally use cellos, which we ensure are either biodegradable or fully compostable. Our web hosts also have impeccable green credentials, using 100% renewable energy, and have additionally made a pledge to protect or plant 1 billion trees by 2030.
